I have been on Facebook since freshman year and it has been the best and the least boring social networking website so far. I had a Myspace account before but I closed it because Facebook had more to offer. I opened Myspace again after they bough Imeem but I couldn’t retrieve my playlists again so I am just not active on it! Facebook brought in the “privacy settings” trend which almost every SN website has these days. My very first account was on hi5 when I was in 9th grade, but after adding friends it became quite boring. I was like “Yay 100 friends, so now what?” Next, I moved to Orkut (a SN website by Google) which had a unique feature called “communities”, very similar to the “Groups” on Facebook. I was initially very active in the community discussions of Orkut Fan clubs. Eventually, that became boring too. I still have an orkut account just to keep in touch with my friends in India. After high school, I moved to the US and heard people use Facebook here, I ended up opening an account just to see what the buzz is about. Surprisingly, the privacy settings feature was very attractive. I actually uploaded my pictures because I knew only my friends could see it. I find it fun receiving comments and commenting on my friends’ pictures. Besides, the applications and quizzes were a good way to pass time. Facebook chat keeps me on Facebook all the time. Some people get annoyed by Facebook changing its layout from time to time but I think it is their way of keeping people interested. I opened a Twitter and Friendster account for this class. As for Twitter, I think it’s a bit too much to keep posting our status like 5-6 times a day or even once a day, but that’s pretty much all it is about. Personally, I don’t have the time to handle more than 2 SN websites, twitter would be too much! Friendster’s layout is very unattractive, specially the fact that I couldn’t find any of my friends on it, I don’t know what I would do on that website.
